Snow Day(s)
02.8.2012
We've had two snow days this week, one Sunday, one Wednesday.
It's amazing how snow tamps down all of the normal city noise, which is probably halved anyway, because fewer people venture out when it's this cold and wet and slippery. But for Paris Play flâneurs and photographers, it's heaven.
News reports tell us the snow's been worse across Northern Europe, and into Russia and the Ukraine, so our joy at being in this beautiful city under such fairyland conditions is tempered somewhat by the severity of these storms elsewhere. We are grateful to return to a warm apartment.

Dear Dawna,
That is my favorite snow photo, too.
I've never seen snow come and go this quickly. Not a trace of it in the city today. Did we dream it? No, the photos are proof.
Wish we could be at your reading next Sunday!
Much love,
Kaaren (& Richard)
Dear Varya,
It's so wonderful to hear from you! Isn't that a great poem, and Daniel's translation, as well?
When I moved out of NYC, I thought it would be the last time I'd live in a snowy city, and rejoiced. I love California weather, but there is something deeply mysterious about the dramatic change in seasons in Paris, and things I disliked in other cities, delight me here. Why is that? Maybe it's finally finding a city where both of us feel so at home.
It is lovely to think of you walking with us all along the way. Now one of these days, you must make that literally true.
Much love,
Kaaren (& Richard)
KK + RB,
This P.P. has such a dreary, melancholy beauty to it. It caused me to yearn going inward to explore the gray areas of my being. The shot of the archway portal to the road ahead, stopped me in my tracks for a moment. Shall I cross that threshold? What unknown surprises or delights will be revealed on the other side?
A PP Fan,
Marguerite
Chere Marguerite,
Hard to imagine gray areas of YOUR being. And you seem to skip through every archway, ready for any adventure!
I always wonder, for those who grow up in places where it snows, does it seem less magical than it does to us? I doubt I'll ever get used to snow.
Much love to you,
Kaaren & Richard
How wonderful to get to see a white Paris! Thank you so much for continuing to share your beautiful city with us - your day-to-day life, your adventures. Stunning photos - and I was tickled sweet that you wrote your initials in the snow. Oh, to be young and in love again!
